  90. 2.2.) Hardware installation
  91.  
  92.   Install your graphics board as described in the Hardware Manual
  93.   supplied with your board.
  94.

  96. 2.3.) Driver installation
  97.  
  98.   It is required that you have installed Windows NT 3.5 with a
  99.   graphics driver for your VGA board.
  100.  
  101.   a) In the "main" group start the "Control Panel" program.
  102.  
  103.   b) Start the "Display Tool" to select/change the video display.
  104.  
  105.   c) In the "Display Settings" window click the "Change Display Type"
  106.      button.
  107.  
  108.   d) In the "Display Type" window you get information on the current
  109.      display driver. Click the "Change" button.
  110.  
  111.   e) The "Select Device" window offers an overview of all display
  112.      drivers supplied with Windows NT 3.5. Click the "Other" button.
  113.  
  114.   f) In the "Install From Disk" window you are requested to insert
  115.      the installation disk "A:\". If necessary, overwrite the default
  116.      selection. Click "OK" to confirm.
  117.  
  118.   g) The "Select Device" window appears again. At the end of the
  119.      display driver list there is also the driver for your miro
  120.      board. Select the "miroCRYSTAL (single screen)" driver for
  121.      all boards supported by this installation disk. Click the
  122.      "Install" button. Confirm the following warning.
  123.  
  124.   h) If you had already installed the driver, you are asked whether
  125.      you want to install the old or the new driver. Start the
  126.      installation of a new driver by clicking the "New" button.
  127.  
  128.   i) You are requested again to insert the installation disk
  129.      under A:\. If necessary, overwrite the default. To confirm the
  130.      installation, click the "Continue" button. When the message about
  131.      a successful installation appears confirm. Confirm the message
  132.      telling you that the driver is only available after restarting
  133.      the computer.
  134.  
  135.   j) You can restart the computer immediately by clicking "Restart Now"
  136.      in the "Display settings change" window. You can also click the
  137.      "Don┤t Restart Now" button to go back to the "Display type" window.
  138.      To close this window click "Close". To close the "Display settings"
  139.      window click "OK". Use the Program Manager to restart the system.
  140.  
  141.   k) After the restart the driver which has just been installed
  142.      is active with the lowest resolution (31 kHz VESA monitor:
  143.      640 x 480, 256 colours, 60 Hz). Go on with 2.4.) to select a
  144.      monitor and with 2.5.) to change the resolution.
  145.  
  146.   If problems occur with the display driver when restarting
  147.   the system, you can reselect the VGA driver by using the
  148.   "Windows NT Version 3.5 [VGA mode]" option in the boot menu.
  149.   If this doesn`t solve the problem use the "last good menu"
  150.   option to reselect the old configuration.
  151.  
  152.   If this does not help either, use the Windows-NT-setup-disk/-CD
  153.   and the "Emergency Repair Disk" to repair your system. The
  154.   "Emergency Repair Disk" should include a configuration with a
  155.   VGA driver "640x480, 16 colors" because your system runs properly
  156.   with this driver in any case. To repair your system select the
  157.   "Inspect configuration registry" and "SYSTEM (System Configuration)"
  158.   options only.
  159.  
  160.   If your system uses another display driver, you need the installation
  161.   disk to enable the "miroCRYSTAL" driver again. You can, however, use
  162.   the driver already installed on your hard disk by clicking the
  163.   "Current" button (see h)).
  164.  
  165.  
  166. 2.4.) miro Monitor Select - Control Panel extension
  167.  
  168.   a) Start the "Control Panel" program from the "main" group.
  169.  
  170.   b) To select a monitor, start the "miro Monitor Select"-Tool.
  171.  
  172.   c) The title is the name of your graphics board.
  173.  
  174.   d) Select your monitor from the "Monitor" list. If your monitor
  175.      is not listed, select the monitor  from the "Multi Frequency"
  176.      monitors with the frequency which comes close to the frequency
  177.      of your monitor.
  178.  
  179.   e) After a short while you see the "Available Resolutions" list
  180.      which gives you an overview of all resolutions supported by
  181.      your monitor and the horizontal and vertical refresh rates.
  182.      Please make sure that you do not select a horizontal scan
  183.      frequency which is higher than the horizontal scan frequency
  184.      of your monitor.
  185.  
  186.   f) To confirm your selection, click "OK".
  187.  
  188.   g) In the "Monitor Settings Change" window you can restart your
  189.      computer immediately by pressing the "Restart Now" button.
  190.      You can also click the "Don't Restart Now" button to get back
  191.      to the "Control Panel" program. Restart the system using the
  192.      Program Manager.
  193.  
  194.   h) After the restart the selected monitor is active. If the
  195.      resolutions and refresh rates differ from the settings of
  196.      the previous monitor, the system will notify you. Then, the
  197.      640 x 480 resolution with 256 colors and 31 kHz / 60 Hz is
  198.      enabled. To change the resolution, proceed with 2.5.).
  199.  
  200.   i) Instad of proceeding as described under f), you can abort the
  201.      tool by pressing the "Cancel" button. In this case, the settings
  202.      you made will not be enabled.
  203.  
  204.   PLEASE NOTE:
  205.   The "miro Monitor Select" icon is only available in the "Control Panel"
  206.   program, if a driver installed from this disk is currently active.
  207.  
  208.  
  209. 2.5.) Changing the resolutions
  210.  
  211.   a) In the "main" group start the "Control Panel" program.
  212.  
  213.   b) Start the "Display Tool" to select/change the video display.
  214.  
  215.   c) The "List All Modes" button lists the resolutions your
  216.      board and your monitor support and the number of colours
  217.      and frequencies. Double-click to select a resolution.
  218.  
  219.   d) You can also use the "Desktop area" slider, the
  220.      "Color Palette" and the "Refresh Frequency" windows to
  221.      select a resolution. Keep in mind that the settings are
  222.      interdependent. If you select an invalid setting, the
  223.      other options change so that a valid setting is restored.
  224.  
  225.   e) To check the selected resolution in a testscreen, click
  226.      the "Test" button and confirm.
  227.  
  228.      - Is the selected resolution/frequency displayed on the monitor?
  229.      - Is the correct resolution specified?
  230.      - Are the arrows in the testscreen margins visible?
  231.      - Are the coloured and the hatched areas displayed correctly?
  232.  
  233.   f) After five seconds the testscreen disappears and you see the
  234.      workspace again. If the resolution on the testscreen is OK,
  235.      confirm the "Testing Mode" window with "Yes".
  236.  
  237.   g) You can restart the computer immediately by clicking "Restart Now"
  238.      in the "Display settings change" window. You can also click the
  239.      "Don┤t Restart Now" button to go back to the "Display type" window.
  240.      To close this window click "Close". To close the "Display settings"
  241.      window click "OK". Use the Program Manager to restart the system.
  242.  
  243.   h) After the restart the new resolution is active.
  244.  
  245.   i) If you do not like the resolution, click "No" in the "Testing Mode"
  246.      window. After another message has appeared, you are back in the
  247.      "Display Settings" window. Select another resolution and continue
  248.      with e) or close the Display Tool by clicking the "Cancel" button.
  249.  
  250.   The "Font Size" window allows you to select another font size
  251.   (see d)). If you have not installed the fonts of the selected
  252.   size, you are requested to insert the installation disk under
  253.   A:\. Overwrite the default with the drive letter of you CD drive
  254.   and enter the path \i386. Insert the Windows NT Version 3.5 CD
  255.   in your CD drive so that the required files can be copied to your
  256.   hard disk.
  257.  
  258.  
  259. 2.6.) miro Video Address (Control Panel extension)
  260.  
  261.   To accelerate the image output even more, activate the linear
  262.   video addressing function. For this purpose an extension of the
  263.   Control Panel is installed during the installation. Open the
  264.   Control Panel Program and click the "miro Video Address" icon
  265.   to configure the linear video address,
  266.  
  267.   PLEASE NOTE:
  268.   Keep in mind that problems may occur with motherboards which
  269.   do not decode the addresses completely and in case of address
  270.   conflicts with other memory-mapped expansion boards or with
  271.   the main memory. This option is not available for ISA boards.
  272.  
  273.   Use the "Linear Video Addressing enabled" and the
  274.   "Linear Video Addressing disabled" buttons to switch the
  275.   linear video addressing function on/off:
  276.  
  277.   - "Linear Video Addressing enabled" switches this option on.
  278.     Then the video memory of the graphics board is unsegmented
  279.     and can be accessed by the display driver under the address
  280.     specified under "Physical address".
  281.  
  282.   - "Linear Video Addressing disabled" switches this option off
  283.     (default setting).
  284.  
  285.   The linear video address is specified under "Physical address".
  286.   This address can be overwritten with a hexadecimal value. Make
  287.   sure that the new address is aligned with 8 MB (example of
  288.   sequence of increasing addresses: 7400.000 - 7480.000 - 7500.0000).
  289.   (Default setting: fe00.0000)
  290.  
  291.   Use the arrow buttons beside the display window to increase /
  292.   decrease the video address in 8 MB steps.
  293.  
  294.   The "reset to defaults" enables the default settings.
  295.  
  296.   Confirm your settings by clicking "OK" and close the
  297.   "configuration of linear video address". The settings take
  298.   effect after the computer has been restarted. If the address
  299.   you entered is not aligned correctly, you cannot close the
  300.   window using the "OK" button. Correct the setting or click
  301.   "Cancel" to abort.
  302.  
  303.   If problems occur with the display driver when restarting
  304.   the computer, start the system with another driver as
  305.   described under 2.3) and switch the linear video
  306.   addressing function off.
  307.  
  308.   PLEASE NOTE:
  309.   The "miro Video Address" icon is only available in the "Control Panel"
  310.   program, if a driver installed from this disk is currently active.

  313. 2.7.) Special tips for miroCRYSTAL 20SV/40SV/44SV twin and miroCRYSTAL 20SD twin
  314.  
  315.   Please note: If DIP switch 2 is not set to "ON", to both
  316.   monitor outputs of the graphics board a monitor has to be
  317.   connected. For the graphics output the high-resolution
  318.   board/monitor is used. the boot messages and the fullscreen
  319.   VGA DOS box appears on the first monitor.
  320.

  322. 3.) miroTWINFACE dual-screen configuration
  323.

  350. 3.2.) Hardware installation
  351.  
  352.   Install your graphics board as described in the Hardware Manual
  353.   supplied with your board. To use miroTWINFACE with two monitors
  354.   having different technical data, connect the monitor with the
  355.   lower resolution to the daughterboard. Connect the second monitor
  356.   to the basic board. If you have two monitors with identical
  357.   technical data, you do not have to connect them as described
  358.   above. The monitor connected to the daughterboard displays the
  359.   boot messages and the fullscreen DOS prompt. Make sure that DIP
  360.   switch 2 is not set to ON.
  361.  
  362.   It is assumed that the monitor connected to the daughterboard
  363.   is located on the right-hand side of your desktop and the
  364.   monitor connected to the basic board on the left-hand side.
  365.   This allocation can be redefined as described under 3.4.d).
  366.   We recommend this arrangement, however, for monitors with
  367.   different technical data, because then the icons for minimized
  368.   programs are always located at the bottom on the left-hand
  369.   side in the visible screen area.
  370.  
  371.  
  372. 3.3.) Driver installation
  373.  
  374.   It is required that you have installed Windows NT 3.5 with
  375.   a graphics driver for your VGA board and that you installed
  376.   the miro driver for the single-screen solution.
  377.  
  378.   a) In the "main" group start the "Control Panel" program.
  379.  
  380.   b) Start the "Display-Tool" to select/change the video display.
  381.  
  382.   c) In the "Display Settings" window click the "Change Display Type"
  383.      button.
  384.  
  385.   d) In the "Display Type" window you get information on the current
  386.      display driver. Click the "Change" button.
  387.  
  388.   e) The "Select Device" window offers an overview of all display
  389.      drivers supplied with Windows NT 3.5. If you want to switch
  390.      between the single-screen and the miroTWINFACE configuration
  391.      later without having to insert the installation disk again,
  392.      disable the "Disable current driver". Click the "Other" button.
  393.  
  394.   f) In the "Install From Disk" window you are requested
  395.      to insert the installation disk "A:\". If necessary,
  396.      overwrite the default selection. Click "OK" to confirm.
  397.  
  398.   g) The "Select Device" window appears again. At the end of the
  399.      display driver list there is also the driver for your miro board.
  400.      Select the "miroCRYSTAL (miroTWINFACE)" driver for all boards
  401.      supported by this installation disk. Click the "Install" button.
  402.      Confirm the following warning.
  403.  
  404.   h) If you had already installed the driver, you are asked whether
  405.      you want to install the old or the new driver. Confirm the
  406.      installation of a new driver by clicking the "New" button.

  421.   k) After the restart the driver which has just been installed is
  422.      active with the lowest resolution (for both screens: 31kHz VESA
  423.      monitor: 640 x 480, 256 colours, 60 Hz). Go on with 3.4.) to
  424.      select a monitor and with 3.5.) to change the resolution.
  425.  
  426.     If problems occur with the display driver when restarting the
  427.     system, proceed as described under 2.3).
  428.  
  429.     If your system uses another display driver, you need the
  430.     installation disk to enable the "miroCRYSTAL" driver again. You
  431.     can, however, use the driver already installed on your hard disk
  432.     by clicking the "Current" button (see h)).

  435. 3.4.) miro Monitor Select - Control Panel extension
  436.  
  437.   a) Start the "Control Panel" program from the "main" group.
  438.  
  439.   b) To select a monitor, start the "miro Monitor Select"-Tool.
  440.  
  441.   c) The title consists of the name of your graphics board or your
  442.      miroTWINMODULE which is assigned to the left/right monitors.
  443.  
  444.   d) If the boards are not assigned to the correct monitor, you
  445.      can change this setting using the "Boot messages on left
  446.      monitor" / "Boot messages on right monitor buttons. Select
  447.      the monitor on which the boot messages appeared. After
  448.      changing the setting, the titles are updated according to
  449.      3.4.c). Also, the resolution list may change according to
  450.      3.4.f).
  451.  
  452.   e) Select your monitor from the "Monitor" list. If your monitor
  453.      is not listed, select the monitor from the "Multi Frequency"
  454.      monitors with the frequency which comes close to the frequency
  455.      of your monitor.
  456.  
  457.   f) After a short while you see the "Available Resolutions" list
  458.      which gives you an overview of all resolutions supported by
  459.      your monitor and the horizontal and vertical refresh rates.
  460.      Please make sure that you do not select a horizontal scan
  461.      frequency which is higher than the horizontal scan frequency

  465.       miroTWINFACE" button. If you disabled the "Disable current
  466.       driver" button, the driver running before (e.g. miroCRYSTAL
  467.       (single-screen) ) or the VGA driver is activated.

  469.   h) To confirm your selection, click "OK".
  470.  
  471.   i) In the "Monitor Settings Change" window you can restart your
  472.      computer immediately by pressing the "Restart Now" button.
  473.      You can also click the "Don't Restart Now" button to get back
  474.      to the "Control Panel" program. Restart the system using the
  475.      Program Manager.
  476.  
  477.   j) After the restart the selected monitors are active. If the
  478.      resolutions and refresh rates differ from the settings of

  480.      640 x 480 resolution with 256 colors and 31 kHz / 60 Hz is

  494.   For the single-screen and the dual-screen operation the monitors
  495.   have to be configured individually. There is no synchronisation
  496.   between both installations.
  497.  
  498.  
  499. 3.5.) Changing the resolutions
  500.  
  501.   a) In the "main" group start the "Control Panel" program.
  502.  
  503.   b) Start the "Display Tool" to select/change the video display.
  504.  
  505.   c) The "List All Modes" button lists the resolutions your
  506.      board supports and the number of colours and frequencies.
  507.      Double-click to select a resolution.
  508.  
  509.      PLEASE NOTE:
  510.      For miroTWINFACE for Windows NT version 3.5 the horizontal
  511.      resolutions are added, the vertical resolution is the
  512.      maximum resolution of the basic board. If this resolution
  513.      is higher than the maximum vertical resolution of the
  514.      daughterboard, the remaining screen area is displayed
  515.      virtually, the workspace can be moved by moving the mouse
  516.      cursor toward the upper or the lower screen margin. The
  517.      selected frequency refers to the monitor connected to the
  518.      basic board. Detailed information for both monitors you will
  519.      receive from the "miro Monitor Select" program.
  520.  
  521.   d) You can also use the "Desktop area" slider, the
  522.      "Color Palette" and the "Refresh Frequency" windows to
  523.      select a resolution. Keep in mind that the settings are
  524.      interdependent. If you select an invalid setting, the

  534.      - Are the arrows in the margins of the testscreen visible?
  535.        (In the virtual mode the arrows are not visible on the
  536.        monitor connected to the daughterboard.)
  537.      - Are the coloured and the hatched areas displayed correctly?
  538.  
  539.   f) After five seconds the testscreen disappears and you see the
  540.      workspace again. If the resolution on the testscreen is OK,
  541.      confirm the "Testing Mode" window with "Yes".
  542.  
  543.   g) You can restart the computer immediately by clicking "Restart Now"
  544.      in the "Display settings change" window. You can also click the
  545.      "Don┤t Restart Now" button to go back to the "Display Type" window.
  546.      To close this window click "Close". To close the "Display settings"
  547.      window click "OK". Use the Program Manager to restart the system.

  571.   driver for the miroTWINFACE mode, the settings are saved

  577. 3.7.1.) through Windows NT 3.5

  579.   Windows NT I3.5 has the capability to align windows.

  581.   When clicking the Maximize button the window is maximized to 
  582.   a size which is determined by the virtual resolution of the 
  583.   smaller monitor which is connected to the base board. Maximized 
  584.   and normally sized windows can be moved independently of each 
  585.   other, the system always remembers their last position. Dialog 
  586.   boxes appear on one of both monitors.

  588.   By default, this option is switched off. It can be switched on 
  589.   as described under 3.7.3.).

  592.   In case of incompatibilities with apllications you use, you

  596. 3.7.2.) miroTWINFACE control - Program for positioning windows
  597.  
  598.   Along with the miroTWINFACE drivers, a program for controlling
  599.   the window positions is copied to your hard disk. This program
  600.   extends the possibilities for positioning windows the driver 
  601.   offers. When this program is active, dialog boxes, which 
  602.   otherwise appear on both screens. appear on the screen where 
  603.   the mouse cursor is located. When clicking on the Maximize 
  604.   button, the window is maximized on the screen, where the 
  605.   mouse cursor is currently located.
  606.  
  607.   Add the "MTWINCON.EXE" program which is located in the
  608.   "WINNT35\SYSTEM32" directory using the Drag and Drop function
  609.   of the File Manager to one of your program groups. If you
  610.   include the program in the Autostart group, the program is
  611.   active immediately after you have logged in. After the program
  612.   has been started, it is available as an icon on your desktop.
  613.   For information on how to configure miroTWINFACE control, refer
  614.   to 3.7.3.). To close the program, select the "Close" command 
  615.   in its system menu or log out.

  618.   Not all windows can be controlled by miroTWINFACE control. This
  619.   phenomenon is inherent in the system and must not be regarded
  620.   as a failure. In case of incompatibilities with apllications

  624. 3.7.3.) miroTWINFACE control - Control Panel Extension

  626.   This extension is copied together with the "miro Monitor
  627.   Select" extension. Open the Control Panel Program and click the
  628.   "miroTWINFACE control" icon to configure miroTWINFACE control.

  630.   To configure the positioning of maximized windows, select the
  631.   "MAXIMIZE alignment" button (default = off).
  632.  
  633.   To configure the positioning of the dialog boxes, click on the
  634.   "Dialog alignment" button (default = off).

  636.   The "Alignment by System" button lets you switch on the Windows 
  637.   NT 3.5 alignment function (default = off).

  639.   To confirm, click "OK" and close the "configuration of
  640.   miroTWINFACE control". Now, the selected settings are saved and
  641.   will be used by every application which will be started. To abort
  642.   the configuration, click on "Cancel".

  644.   If you changed the "Alignment by System" option, you can restart 
  645.   the system by pressing the "Restart Now" button in the "Alignment 
  646.   Settings Change". You can also go back to the "Control Panel" 
  647.   program by pressing the "Don┤t restart now" button. Restart the

  651.   You can also use both options: the Windows NT 3.5 and the

  657. 4.) Deleting drivers

  659.   Delete drivers you do not need anymore by enabling
  660.   another driver using the Display Tool of the Control
  661.   Panel program and by restarting the sytem afterwards.
  662.   Then, use the File Manager to delete the display driver
  663.   (extension .DLL) under \WINNT35\SYSTEM32 and the
  664.   miniport driver (extension .SYS) and the configuration
  665.   files (extension .INI) under \WINNT35\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS.

  668. 5.) In case of problems
  669.  
  670.   In case of problems with the VGA DOS box in the
  671.   fullscreen mode ask your dealer or miro for an update
  672.   of the BIOS-ROM. In some cases an unsynchronized image
  673.   may stabilize by switching between the window and the
  674.   fullscreen mode of the VGA DOS box.
  675.  
  676.   The VGA DOS boxs only supports the resolutions
  677.   available for a 'standard VGA', e.g. display modes of
  678.   up to 320x200 pixels with 256 colors or 640x480 pixels
  679.   with 16 colors. If a DOS application tries to use a
  680.   higher resolution, the VGA DOS box, or, in the worst
  681.   case, the hole system might crash.

  684. 6.) Special hint
  685.  
  686.   Please do not try to install drivers or system-relevant 
  687.   tools which are suited for Microsoft Windows 3.x or 
  688.   Microsoft Windows 95. Windows NT 3.5 does not support 
  689.   these drivers or tools. In the worst case, this may 
  690.   cause a system crash.
